Horsehair

Horsehair firing is spontaneous and challenging to control. I heat the pots to almost 1000 degrees F, at which point the pot is removed from the kiln and the hair (horse, dog, llama, or even bird feathers) is burned onto the surface. Other items, such as sugar, may also be added. Adding color post-firing can provide an additional depth to the surface.
